The Honorary Colonel & The Honorary Lieutenant Colonel
Honorary Colonel Tom Marlor, CD, AdeC
Colonel Tom Marlor is only the ninth Honorary Colonel of the RHLI. He was born and raised in Hamilton, graduating from Delta High School in 1966. He was hired as an electrician at Stelco on graduation, but on 1 Mar 68 joined the army. He was commissioned in December 1968 as a Second Lieutenant in the Royal Canadian Army Service Corps.
In 1970 HCol Marlor remustered to the Infantry Corp with the Second Battalion, PPCLI. He went with his battalion to Cyprus under the UN in the winter of 1972/73.
He took his release from the Regular Army to join the Winnipeg Police Department in January, 1974. However, in September 1974, he returned to his roots and joined the Hamilton Police Force.
He joined the army in November 1980 as a lieutenant with the RHLI. He rose very rapidly through the ranks, holding all key Regimental appointments. He was promoted lieutenant-colonel and appointed Commanding Officer 1989 – 1993.
He transferred to Hamilton Militia District Headquarters as the Senior Staff Officer – Administration until the District was disbanded in June 1995. He moved to London Militia District, later renamed 31 Canadian Brigade Group, in charge of Operations. He was promoted colonel and appointed Brigade Commander in November 1995, a position he held until September 1998.
At the same time, HCol Marlor rose through the ranks in his policing career, culminating in his promotion to Deputy Chief in September 1998. At that point, under the pressure of his policing career, he retired from military service although he remained active on the Regimental Senate.
In December of 2006, he retired from policing. In May 2009, he succeeded Colonel Jim Forsyth as our Honorary Colonel.
He was involved with St. John Ambulance for 12 years, stepping down only this past December. He was awarded the Order of St. John - Serving Brother for his service.
Honorary Lieutenant Colonel Tim Hogarth
HLCol Hogarth graduated with a Bachelor of Business Administration from Bishops University in 1984, and joined The Pioneer Group Inc. in Burlington, his family's invest-ment holding company with interests in retail petroleum marketing, commercial real estate development, and restaurant businesses with Tim Hortons and Wendys.
In September 1998, HLCol Hogarth was appointed President & CEO of Pioneer Petroleums and its associated group of companies. Pioneer is one of Canada's leading independent petroleum marketers. The Pioneer Petroleums group of businesses sells more than 1.7 billion litres of fuel through about 290 locations in Ontario and Manitoba. Pioneer is the largest private independent petroleum marketer in Canada with annual revenues over $1.5 billion. Pioneer has been named one of Canada's best-managed companies every year since 2000. Since 1996, Pioneer has been honoured with twenty-six awards by the Canadian Retail Petroleum Awards program.
HLCol Hogarth is also VP & Director – The Pioneer Group Inc; CEO – Pioneer Food Courts Inc.; President – Pioneer Petroleums Transportation Inc.; Chairman & CEO – H&M Hospitality Inc.; President & CEO – Pioneer Hospitality Inc.; Chairman - Future Bright Insurance Group; and President & CEO – Multiplex Food Services Inc.
He also has found time to take the Harvard University Graduate School of Business Program for Management Development, as well as the Quantum Shift Fellows Program and the Leading Entrepreneurial Organizations Program, both at the Ivey School of Business, UWO.
In addition to his corporate work, HCol Hogarth serves on a number of boards: Hamilton Health Sciences Foundation - Vice Chairman; McMaster Children's Hospital – Board of Directors; Leadership Council - Chairman; The Royal Hamilton Light Infantry - Honorary Lieutenant Colonel & Regimental Senate Member; MerryGoRound Children's Foundation - Board Member; Future Bright Insurance Group - Chairman; Duke of Edinburgh's Award, Charter for Business - Founding Partner through Pioneer Petroleums. HLCol Hogarth's interests include skiing, golf, personal fitness, hunting, private pilot, trekking and adventure travel. He belongs to the Toronto Golf Club and the Georgian Peaks Ski Club.
He is the 18th Honorary Lieutenant-Colonel of the RHLI.
