Ex Maple Lightning, Ft. Knox, Kentucky, March 12-19, 2005

Capt Tim Fletcher

When you think “ Ft. Knox ”, you automatically think “gold”. But the expansive US Army base is home to their Armored Warfare School and features a multitude of ranges and other facilities that they make available to allied forces as well.

31 Brigade, including the RHLI, took advantage of the base again this year for Exercise Maple Lightning over March break the week of 12-19 March. The weather, while cool for a few days, with even a touch of snow, was much better than at LFCATC Meaford and allowed soldiers to train more effectively, getting a head start for Ex Stalwart Guardian at the end of August.

It appears Ft. Knox will be the location again for Lightning Strike in March of 2006, so book your time now!
