Cpl Shoeman Keeping You Posted

The following is a description as you go through the photos at the left

1. The mobile call-sign for Cpl Jeff Schoeman's vehicle - also provides a bit of welcome shade when temps hit more than 30 degrees Celcius.
2. Helos provided rapid-reaction ability during times of tension, such as the recent riots in Banja Luka.
3. Generally, the Canadians drive the venerable Iltis for recce and liaison duties. Although nearing the end of its life span and offering no protection, the vehicle soldiers on.
4. There's nothing a soldier likes better than the soldier's kit from another country. These French vehicles don't offer the fresh air you get in an Iltis, but do offer somewhat upgraded protection and mobility.
5. In Ontario, this would most likely be an historic site. In Bosnia, it's just another ruin. The remnants of Kljuc Castle, a reminder of the days when dukes and barons ruled the land, each with their own little fiefdom.
6. Ancient it's not - but it's definitely ruined. These apartments in Mostar show the devastating effect of war. Although much of the rubble has been cleared away, it's unlikely these buildings will ever be inhabited again, and are fit only to be torn down. It's sad when accommodation in Bosnia is so severely limited.
7,8.It looks like Cpl Schoeman is engaging in anti-aircraft practice, but it's really just the photographer capturing a dramatic sunset. The venue was a march and shoot competition hosted by the French forces in Bosnia. You get a better look at the event in the next picture!
9. Running's good for you - especially when you're upholding national pride! Cpl Schoeman and his buds go all out during the British-sponsored military skills competition.
10,11.Crossing obstacles is definitely a military skill, and a single-rope bridge is a good way to get across deep ravines, rivers and so on. This should look familiar to Rileys - our Pioneer platoon has built these in the past during unit exercises.
12. (sunglasses) The 'Schoeman' look - I'm way too cool for this place! You can also see the terrain in some places looks a lot like home - or at least, Petawawa!
13. The Canadians - "The bold and the few" upheld Canadian honour during the competition with the British.
14. The winners - every event has winners, and while it looks like the British picked up a few trophies, it also looks like Cpl Schoeman made sure some of the glitter stayed with the Canucks.
15. Carrying a few sections of APC track doesn't seem like much of a chore - until you try it! The Canadians put small-party task skills to work to lug these chunks of steel down the course as the British watch carefully from behind.
